Cistus ×dansereaui 'Jenkyn Place'
Common name(s): rockrose
Description: evergreen shrub; introduced to cultivation prior to 1838 erroneously as C. lusitanicus, C. ×loretii, and C. ×florentinus. All of the clones now in cultivation were sourced from an old plant at Jenkyn Place in Hampshire, England by John Coke of Green Farm Plants who distributed the plant in the 1980s. Rounded growth and large white flowers (8 cm.) with maroon blotches from spring into summer and then sporadically into autumn. One of the longest-blooming cistus in cultivation. Parentage: C. ladanifer × C. inflatus.
Height: to 4 ft. Spread: to 5 ft.
Position: full sun and lean, well-draining soil
Uses: ornamental
Winter Hardiness: to 5 F and below
Drought: adapted to 4.5 months of summer drought
Care: tip-pruning after flowering (especially in the first couple of years) will result in a more attractive, compact plant. Cistus generally won't tolerate or regenerate from hard pruning of older, woody growth.
