Cistus ×laxus 'Snow White'
Common name(s): rockrose
Description: evergreen shrub; an especially vigorous and hardy cistus raised by Eric Sammons (c. 1956) and considered one of the best C. ×laxus hybrids for vigor, hardiness, rounded habit, and flowering. Apple-green foliage and pure white flowers (6.5 cm.) from spring into summer. Parentage: C. populifolius subsp. major × C. inflatus.
Height: to 5 ft. Spread: to 5 ft.
Position: full sun and lean, well-draining soil
Uses: ornamental
Winter Hardiness: to 0 F and below
Drought: adapted to 4 months of summer drought
Care: tip-pruning after flowering (especially in the first couple of years) will result in a more attractive, compact plant. Cistus generally won't tolerate or regenerate from hard pruning of older, woody growth. 'Snow White' will tolerate more hard pruning than most cistus and can regenerate from some hardwood pruning.
