Lavandula 'Evelyn Cadzow'

Description: evergreen shrub; one of the smallest L. stoechas hybrids in cultivation. Compact, rounded growth with light green foliage and small flower heads with dark corollas and reddish-purple bracts.

Corolla: dark purple-black

Sterile bracts: red-purple

Bloom season: spring-autumn

Best Uses: containers, rock gardens


Origin: discovered in the Dunedin, New Zealand garden of Evelyn Cadzow around 1992 and named for her by Geoff and Adair Genge. Thought to be a progeny of L. 'Helmsdale'.


Position: full sun and lean, well-draining soil


Winter Hardiness: to 10 F and below


Drought: adapted to 5 months of summer drought

Care: no special care needed, prune hard in spring to reshape and rejuvenate foliage
