Description: a subtropical tree native to the Indian subcontinent and SE Asia. Leaves have a pungent, nutty flavor and are popular in various cuisines. Can grow to 20 ft. in the ground but will be dwarfed by container culture when grown as a house plant (which is necessary in Oregon). Mostly evergreen as a houseplant but can drop leaves if shocked by drastic temperature changes.


Height: to 5 ft. (indoors) Spread: to 3 ft.


Position: indoors- bright, direct light.


Uses: medicine, culinary- to temper oils in South Asian cuisine, etc.


Distribution: South and SE Asia

Care: no special care needed, take care not to overwater when grown as a houseplant
