Common name(s): sorrel, garden sorrel, 


Description: perennial; a very nutritional herb with a higher vitamin content than both kale and spinach. Forms a rosette of tangy green leaves that can be harvested any time. Young (small) leaves have the best flavor and are best for any fresh application; older leaves are best used for soups or sauces. Quite popular in Eurasia and parts of Africa but not as well known in the U.S.

Rumex scutatus


Common name(s): French sorrel, French buckler sorrel


Description: perennial; forms a basal rosette of shield-shaped leaves with a mild, citrusy flavor that many prefer to the typical garden sorrel (R. acetosa). Very high in nutrients and the best choice for French sorrel soup!

Position: full sun and well-draining soil
